Mainnet begins secure migration of early legacy accounts
A mainnet validator update adds on-chain support for account migration and begins moving early legacy accounts that were protected on the chain to new, securely generated addresses.
- Mainnet is running an updated validator build that adds on-chain support for secure account migration.
- Some early accounts from the 2019–2022 period relied on weak keys. Once this was identified, those accounts were protectively frozen on the chain to keep their balances safe.
- This update introduces a governed migration path that moves such an account's balances and holdings to a new, securely generated address.
- The first migration batch has now been applied on mainnet, and further batches will follow.
- Consensus reliability was also improved: validators gained a leadership standby path for faster and smoother leader failover.
